It seems a lot of water again has passed under the bridge.
Still going strong, 80k+.
Don’t ride much during the summers, but when I do, I enjoy it a lot. I will never sell this.

Water under the bridge, or something.
Shock is now overhauled, front will be done also. New Metzelers are on.
Other bits and bobs, belt pulleys are worn weirdly, those need to be done too.
Got the new solenoid the other day and yesterday evening had to go for a spin, even though the ambient temperature was way too high for me or the bike.
Flawless.
It starts and runs.
Now I need to fit in my leathers…
New filters. Permanent ones.
Pipercross MPX038.
But the question is, which way?
After some thinking, I decided that coarse up (black), fine down (red). Didn’t see any info in the packaging.
To put them on, you need to re-use the plastic parts from your original filters.
Now I need a new starter solenoid. With 150A rating. Ebay.co.uk to the rescue.. and searchword “AP8112927”
A lot happening in the background.
Slowly, but we’ll get there.
Got them installed.
Slowly, but surely this is coming back together. In the summer we ride! But, what year? I don’t know.
Oh, also did the swingarm bearings earlier:
Had to put that in the title, so that the search engines find it.
If you are looking for one, go to http://www.123bearing.eu , they have it.
Might as well do the steering bearings too..
Finally managed to get it off.
Penetrating liquid, a threaded rod, heat and a patience. I did swear a couple times.. luckily I had some Weizen beer.
Rod is 12mm (nut size 19mm).
Axle is probably toast. The bushings looked ok. Replace the bearings, if they are not too expensive. Already got the needle bearing for the rear wheel. Still looking for the big angular for the rear wheel. Maybe get it from https://www.123bearing.eu
I fear the day when I try to put it all back together! Getting the frame off the engine was not easy. The engine is heavy!
Changing the rear wheel bearings.
two-row angular:
BAH0062
needle bearing:
NK42/30
Also bought tools to try and remove the pivot axle.
What a pain in the a$$.
I knew when starting this, that it would not come out easily. Well, it’s still there. Not budging.
Juha even made me a steel punching tool; Axle spins using the 14mm allen key from the left side.
Steering bearings also need a cleaning.
Rear eccentric taking off. Bearings will be replaced.
More to come.
changed the oil (no filter) at ~74600 km.
Experienced some coolant leak and high coolant temps.
Suspecting the expansion tank, as it is somewhat a known issue in the 748/916/996 series.
Took the cooling parts off, didn’t see immediately if the tank is cracked or not.. will pressurise it to be sure.
What’s the point of the rubber thingy in this hole? (now removed). And does that look like a crack in the hole?
Also took off the radiator, cleaned it a bit. It’s got 16 years worth of insects and road dirt in it..
Will also check proper functioning of thermostat and the fan switch.
Now she’s ready for riding again. Maybe wash/clean her too?
No riding, just tearing apart.
Couldn’t remember when the filter was changed, maybe 2010? Have to look at my notes.
Fuel pump is Bosch 0 580 453 408
Perhaps change the coarse filter too, while all is open.
Also need to change the fuel lines too.
Battery was replaced too. Old one was 5 years old.
